Crochet in Spiral Rounds:

Work the body, hands, feet, fingers, tail, ears, yellow face, sombrero cone in spiral rounds (do not

turn, do not join). Use a stitch marker or pin to mark the end of each round. Move the marker up

each time you finish a round.

Invisible Fastening Off:

For a smooth finish to a final round, simply break the yarn leaving an end long enough to sew with. Pull it through the loop of the last stitch. Thread it into a wool needle and take the needle under the two strands of the first stitch.

Then take it back into the last stitch to form a new stitch, or just pull it tight until it disappears.

Changing Colours in Continuous Rounds:

1. At the start of a round which is to be in a new colour, pull up a loop as if to make a double crochet in the old colour, but don’t pull through the second loop to complete the stitch, you should then have two loops on your hook.

Complete the double crochet by pulling through a loop the *new* colour. You have just made a double crochet which is half the old colour and half the new colour.

2. Continue double crochet with the new colour.

Closing the Hole of Remaining Stitches:

Once you have finished the final round there remains a small opening which you need to close.

1. Thread the yarn tail into a tapestry needle.

2. Insert the needle through the front loop of each stitch around the opening and pull the tail tight to close the hole.

To get rid of the bump, insert the needle through the middle of the ring you’ve created, and

bring it out 4-5cm away. Pull the yarn tight and the bump at the closed end will disappear, leaving

a nice smooth finish.

Finally, snip the end close to the surface, and the cut end will retract back inside the piece .

Slip/Magic Ring:

To make a slip ring form a loop with your yarn. You will need to loop the yarn around your

fingers so that the end attached to the yarn ball, lies on the right while the “tail” of the yarn lies

on the left. Insert the hook through the loop (under both pieces of yarn). Pull the portion of yarn

through the loop and put your first row of stitches into the ring. Pull the short end of yarn and the

stitches will close together at the centre, completing your slip/magic ring. To close

this round make a slip stitch into the first stitch of your ring and proceed to the next round, or

don’t make a slip stitch and continue to crochet to next stitch if you are working in spiral rounds.

Rd 1 white yarn: 2ch, 6dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1ss in top ch of 2ch (6sts)

Rd 2 1ch, *[2dc]* crochet 6 times, 1ss in first ch (12sts)

Rd 3 1ch, *1dc, [2dc]* crochet 6 times (18sts). Fasten off invisibly. Leave a long tail, you

will need it to make a small knot.

Rd 4 Take black yarn and make 1ss in back loop of each dc going around the edge.

Fasten off invisibly. Leave a long tail to sew the eyes onto the face.

4. PUPIL OF THE EYE

Material: YarnArt Lily in black, hook size: 1.0mm;

– 2ch, 6dc in 2nd ch from hook, invisible fastening off.

Sew on the black circle to the left side of each eye; pull the needle with white yarn (which is left

from the white circle) through both circles and create a small knot, hide the yarn end.

Attach the eyes to the face between Rounds 3 and 8 using the black yarn tails, weave in the loose Ends.

5. EYEBROWS

Material: YarnArt Begonia in brown.

-Thread the yarn (about 100cm in length) into a tapestry needle. Insert the needle from the top of

the head (leaving a 7-8cm tail) to a place where the eyebrow will start, point 1. Then insert the

needle to point 2 and push it back to point 1 (same place where the yarn comes up). You will have a

line – base for the eyebrows.

Next, wrap the line with the yarn 3 times, then insert the needle to point 2 and push it through to

the top of the head. Repeat the same with the other eyebrow and return the needle to the top of the

head and secure the ends. Don’t cut the yarn end as you still have enough tail to make a mouth.

To make the mouth:

Push the needle with brown yarn from top of the head down to the bottom of yellow face between

Rounds 6 and 7. Take 2.0mm hook and make 1ss in each of next 8-9sts between these

rounds. Then pull the yarn out, insert it into a needle and make a small vertical line at the end.

Push the needle with the yarn to the top of the head, secure it and cut the yarn ends.

6. NOSE

Material: YarnArt Begonia in pink, hook size: 1.5mm;

How to make (see the chart below): 3ch, 3htr in 3rd ch from hook, 2ch, ss in same base ch. Fasten

Take a piece of white thread and insert the needle from back to the front of the nose, make a knot

and hide the yarn end.

7. WHISKERS

Material: YarnArt Begonia in black, hook size 1.5mm;

– take the black yarn and insert it through 4 stitches between Rounds 4 and 5 of the centre of the

face. Insert the hook to the place where the yarn end is coming up and make 14ch. Fasten off

leaving a tail about 6mm. Follow the same instruction to make the whisker from the other side.
